Organizational Orientation and Enterprise Assessment of the Ulame Fisherfolk AssociationOrientation on MAFAR’s Programs and Services and Leadership and Governance for FFOs
The Organizational Orientation and Enterprise Assessment of the Ulame Fisherfolk Associations was conducted on May 14, 2024, at Sitio Subah, Barangay Ulame, Lamitan City, with 25 participants from the Ulame Fisherfolk Association, representatives from the City Agriculture Office, the Barangay Local Government Unit, and the WEE-SAFE Project. The activity aimed to strengthen the association’s organizational capacity by informing members about the importance of registration and understanding their constitution and by-laws, clarifying the duties and responsibilities of officers and members, and ensuring awareness of registration procedures to improve access to institutional support. Discussions focused on organizational governance, collection of dues, and enterprise operations such as catch-and-sell production, post-harvest handling, marketing, and inventory management, alongside expressions of support from local leaders. A practical output of the session included the costing and planning of fishing gear materials amounting to ₱47,880 for 28 members, guided by facilitators. The activity enhanced members’ understanding of accountability and association management, reinforced the importance of formal registration, and strengthened collaboration with local stakeholders, with participants expressing strong appreciation for the initiative as a meaningful step toward improving their livelihoods and organizational development.
