Training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Vegetable Production
The Training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Vegetable Production was conducted on September 24–25, 2025, at Nalamar Restaurant in Lamitan City, organized by the WEE-SAFE Project in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Basilan (OPAg), and the City Agriculture Office. The two-day activity gathered eight farmer associations to strengthen their knowledge and skills in sustainable vegetable production, focusing on planning, cost management, crop selection, soil preparation, fertility management, irrigation, pest and disease control, and post-harvest handling. Participants learned practical techniques such as organic fertilizer application, crop rotation, seed sterilization, hand pollination, and integrated pest management, while actively discussing field challenges and solutions with resource speakers. The training also featured the distribution of EU-funded farm tools and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure proper utilization and accountability of support provided. The activity concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the new knowledge, tools, and strengthened partnerships, with follow-up monitoring planned through regular coordination and site visits. Overall, the training enhanced farmers’ technical capacity and collaboration with local partners, supporting the development of a more sustainable and market-responsive vegetable sector in Lamitan and Basilan.
