Consultation with Selected Vegetable Farmers Association and Stakeholders in Lamitan City
On August 7, 2025, the Consultation with Selected Vegetable Farmers Association and Stakeholders in Lamitan City was conducted at Lamitan City Hostel and gathered farmers, traders, and agencies to validate the 2024 vegetable value chain study and identify solutions to improve production and marketing. Discussions noted that vegetable supply in Basilan remains insufficient and heavily reliant on imports from Zamboanga City, with challenges including limited inputs, pests, weak post-harvest facilities, and unstable pricing. Stakeholders recommended transparent input distribution, training on GAP and commercial production, development of post-harvest and price monitoring systems, stronger farmer-trader coordination, expanded KADIWA operations, and formation of a joint coordinating body, emphasizing sustained collaboration to strengthen the local vegetable sector.
