Social Accountability Training for Community-Based Associations and Project Partners
The Social Accountability Training for Community-Based Associations and Project Partners, conducted on October 22–23, 2025, at Marcelina Hotel, was organized under the WEE-SAFE Project implemented by Kasanyangan Microfinance Foundation, Inc. in partnership with Oxfam Pilipinas and funded by European Union through the EU-BAEP. The two-day activity strengthened the capacity of community-based associations and project partners to promote social accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance by equipping them with practical tools for citizen monitoring, participatory planning, and advocacy. Through lectures, workshops, and a multi-stakeholder dialogue with representatives from key government agencies and local offices, participants discussed issues affecting the agriculture and fisheries sectors, including production challenges, price references for commodities, and access to financial and livelihood programs. A key highlight was the emphasis on addressing the aging farmer population by increasing youth engagement through education, innovation, and technology-driven agricultural approaches, alongside stronger collaboration with schools and youth organizations. The training reinforced the need for coordinated action among agencies, LGUs, and community groups to improve service delivery and sustain development efforts. By the end of the activity, participants were committed to applying social accountability practices in their organizations, strengthening partnerships with government institutions, and actively contributing to a more transparent, inclusive, and sustainable agri-fishery sector in Basilan and the broader Bangsamoro region.
